Resonant Realms – Cover

This zine contains eight scenes of surreal landscapes, occupied only by Lomi, a teen metalhead, and the visualized imagined contents of her favourite bands’ music.

Each scene comes with a little clarification and notes on things that inspired me when creating the drawings.

Now, go forth on your journey through sound and space, updating twice weekly here at Weald Comics!

ANIMALS AS LEADERS

The instrumental landscapes of Animals as Leaders are beautiful and heavy, architectural and chaotic. They have an almost fractal level of detail in their rhythms and while there is something natural about their music, it reminds me more of the infinite detail of crystalline minerals and planetary development than animals.

Resonant Realms – Blind Guardian

BLIND GUARDIAN

The most recent Blind Guardian albums are an incredible collage of influences, narrative and visual, and while there is a strong focus on storytelling, their most recent songs feel like a montage of entire epics, or surreal flashbacks through barely-tangible sagas. Things are big, heavy even, but they feel almost weightless.

The storytelling landscape that Clutch explores is constantly expanding, but the narrator, played by Neil Fallon’s voice, has congealed into a very specific person for me, and he is very definitely larger than life and pretty comfortable as a cryptid.

I’m only interested in the Rainbow songs that take me to distant lands on faraway stars ruled by wizards, costing those who dare visit their souls, their minds, or their youth. It’s not a real place now, and it doesn’t feel like it ever could have existed, but I can see it in the distance whenever I put on my headphones.
